Since its inception there have been persistent rumors that Denuvo has a negative impact on overall PC game performance. Denuvo has, in the past, strongly pushed back on these claims, for obvious reasons.
As new tests from Overlord Gaming reveal, there’s good reason why PC gamers have long been suspicious of the DRM package. The channel has put together an extensive video showing the impact of Denuvo both before and after the capability has been patched out by various game vendors.
The impact of denovu can be felt in almost every game:
* Level load times are significantly longer.
*Frame rates are lower. (2x higher in one case).
Judging by the results Overlord Gaming recorded, Denuvo tends to hit minimum frame times more heavily than average fps. In fact, as Overlord points out, it’s not unusual to see performance improve by 50-60 percent once Denuvo is patched out. How much of the performance gain is purely based on Denuvo, and how much is due to other changes in the code by developers is hard to tell. Though It’d be impossible to argue Denuvo has no impact.
While this impact will always be title-specific, the reality of minimum and even average frame rates being so badly impacted, there is effectivly a Denuvo tax being put on PC gamers that buy the title legally.
