The game has some great idea’s and has a tense and multifaceted execution allowing you to bludgeon your way into being. A lot of grey area choices to keep your head above water keep you on your toes between the crime families, gangs, mayor office and internal affairs. The choices forced upon you often don’t have a “good” outcome and require balancing the various forces in the game to the best of your ability.
Graphically the game has a very clean and nice style that really conveys a pretty damn good feel. i especially love the pseudo-comic book style of doing cut scenes and the way music works with a selection system and in-game type of catalog to unlock songs.
Sadly, the various events, though great for the first play through that force you to make choices are not randomized in any way, meaning that you can trail and error the game quite a bit and that takes away a ton of the fun in my view. Once you do a day or segment once… you don’t get any new surprises, really dimming the feeling of enjoyment. you play – > reload previous day and repeat.
Also the game has a hatred of giving the player information, even information about base mechanics that you need to know. the tutorial is woefully inadequate for that regards.
So, overall a really enjoyable game with a ton of choices that force you to make compromises and think them through but with several design choices that pull it down a bit.
