I get it, this is early access. I also get it, this is a game lots of people have been waiting for, for a long time and are exited. But there is simply way to many issues that are unrelated to the development / bugs and are related to design choices that make the game less fun… time and again.
First, the delay on every action… it feels like my character, from Engineer to knight all need to contemplate the combined works of shakespear before stabbing that goblin munching on your entrails. Every. Single. Time. This goes for triggering quest givers, stabbing dudes, running away, switching target and so forth… imagine playing on a latency of 500+ in a game, but by design.
This is compounded by the problems with the games AI, which, while never a strong point of the genre was never quite this braindead. Ai doesn’t roam, doesn’t call for help, doesn’t flank or use counter abilities… it doesn’t even reposition. This is even true for Bosses that can be defeated by the magic of “kite in circles”.
Now, visually the game looks fine, and from a performance perspective, i have no problems with it. IT’s not perfect by any means, and certainly, many games look pretties by a mile, but the aesthetic fits and melds well together and has no weird bugs in terms of clipping or the like.
Abilities are overal pretty cool with various effects and options that allow decent customization. While the upgrade system isn’t my favorite, it does provide a nice incentive to “branch out” in the trees instead of just maxing one.
But, any goodwil on that front is lost to me by the bad Loot… And lets be fair, between cool explosions – you want to look awesome. And visually… you mostly do, but when you open your boss-taken loot and expect a cool Sword of summoning swords of flaming necromancy… you will find +3 DPS. or +3.5 Healing. Utterly bland.
So bad a shitty Ai, bad loot and sub-par performance in terms of delays on actions make this one a game to hold of on. Maybe Early access will be good for it, but for now… pick up Diablo 3 or Grim dawn, they are infinitely better titles.
