Lets start by saying I don’t feel like people should buy this game right now. It’s just WAY to buggy, and that is inexcusable. Coupled with the many performance issues… ugh. So for now, I say: wait and see what developers do with the game in terms of patching and updates, because it really needs them.
BUT…moving away from there is a very solid co-op horde mode game, with a single player campaign that is decently enjoyable and a multiplayer component that rewards communication and teamwork.
If there is one point to start with critique it’s that my least favorite part of this game is the map objectives. They delight in sending you back and forth across the entire damn map to much. Yes, the maps are pretty cool and the various chambers, corridors and vistas are designed very well in the 40K style… but still, don’t make me walk the same corridor 5 times to get to 3 corners of the map. It just feels like fluff padding to make the levels last longer.
BUT.. by god is it great to let a chain-gun rip into an oncoming hoard, or to roast them using a flamethrower. It’s hectic, it’s fun and after the bullets stop flying and you take in the carnage – it gives a very visceral feel. very cool.
Difficulty level and AI wise there is some nice range, but at the end of the day it’s a horde game and the AI has never been a major aspect of that as opposed to being swarmed by enemies. The game though does try to space this up a little bit and the overall effect is pretty much okay.
The Co-Op is great, shooting Xenos is great and making the walls covered in bits of flesh is awesome… when it isn’t plunging down to 30 fps
