Rise and Shine is fantastic in almost every way. 2D Art crafted to exquisite detail and gameplay that delivers exiting and challenging action every step of the way.
Rise & Shine takes the stage with a extremely detailed design and a extremely well crafted world with excellent cohesion between scenes, scenarios, levels and stages – each one fits well thematically, and delivers challenges and gameplay that fits with the level in question. From Robo monsters to Zombies – every character is well designed, every enemy is distinct and every challenge is cohesive .
The gameplay does have a weird duality to it – with a hard and challenging progression that rewards paying attention and mastering mechanics while simultaneously forcing you to stop the action packed sequences to solve logic puzzles… that are badly explained. Going from great and impressive pacing and challenge, to a standstill while you figure out a badly explained puzzle.
From the sound design I have almost as little to complain about as I do from the artstyle. Its finely crafted, and fits intensely well thematically. While i’d love for voice work to be included, that’s a wish and not a complaint.
Gameplay in terms of combat with various ammo types, combat methods and timing / positions elements train you step by step to fight bosses, with mini bosses and minor challanges preparing you for the “big bad” later in the stage. Excellent design.
A gripe, outside of the annoying and misfit puzzles is the length of the title. Clocking in at around 4 hours maximum for a playthrough, with near to no replay value, the game at full price might be a bit steeper than some are comfortable with, and while it’s an excellent title – its hard to fault them for thinking this.
An excellent title and worth your time.
