Its pretty hard to make a AAA title feel this weak, and somehow – Relic and Sega did.
I’m not the worlds biggest warhammer fan, and beyond the basics anyone could run circles around me with their knowledge, so you can imagine the that when even I’m disappointing in the overall available customization for your armies. Outside the fact that only 3 factions are available (I can live with that), the only customization you have is …colors.
Moving on, this lacking gameplay continues into the actual game. While i’m okay with having only one gameplay mode, i’m less impressed with the over reliance on elites and a woeful lack of base / resource / macro management. With only 5 buildings, tech specializations, progression into lategame and expansion in terms of basebuilding or resources are limited and non-existent.
This means that scouting, counter-play and deceptions in tech are not possible, vastly lowering the strategic possibilities in the title. Even the resource collection and cover systems are stripped. With nearly no buildings available to defend resource points or any way to create static defense (outside of 1 weak as hell building on the resource point), and with cover being a weird wait-in-this-box for ranged units not to attack and usually quite useless for most situations.
Compounding all of this, while the actual units available are pretty cool overall with decent variety, they mostly just serve as cannon fodder for the elites, that you can level up, summon for basically free and that can waltz into the fight and kill half a dozen enemies on their own, killing any semblance of gameplay balance.
I could go on in the various issues from the lack-luster PC Version to the issues with the campaign progression and gameplay in every way but suffice to say that this game is disappointing in almost all aspects.
