Summary
I’m very conflicted on this title – One hand, its very enjoyable and plays like a solid and feature complete RTS set with a cool gameplay setting…. but its missing all the “Grand ” in its strategy at the moment.. and oh boy is this one buggy and so very, very early in development.
I strongly suggest watching the video for a much more detailed rundown!
First, the gameplay is solid from an RTS perspective. The base building, resource gathering, unit compositions and everything related around that idea is very well implemented, and though the balance isn’t there yet (especially in terms of ramp up and resource production). Sadly, the UI is probably the most annoying part of this. From an RTS perspective this UI is horrible and actively hates giving you quick access and overview of a situation and units. If there is one part of the game that is currently implemented i absolutely hate – it’s the UI.
From a visual perspective, i’m not a great fan of the visual fidelity (Gimme some AA Devs) but from an aesthetic point it looks pretty fitting and well put together, with solid cohesion. On the animation quality, the devs have a bunch of work left to do across the board.
From the Grand Strategy side, there is nothing implemented so if you plan on picking this up – Do it for the skirmish mode for now (which IS fun), or wait until the Grand Strategy part is implemented.
finally a note on performance and stability: It’s okay after a few hot-fixes. I’ve not had any crashes as of update 0.11 during gameplay, but i must note that the game is filled with minor bugs all over the place.
Conclusion
Overall, i would either wait a few months until more of the game is properly implemented and we have a better overall picture, but if you enjoy medieval style RTS gameplay, it might be worth a stab at it already.
