Summary
Tannenberg takes Verduns core and expands on it, but in some ways it feels less of a sequel, and more of an expansion – Not that that is a bad thing, but its not perfect.
Tannenberg is a nuanced title and as such i strongly suggest watching the video to get the best impression.
If you are playing this game, you’re doing so because you want a more authentic WW1 FPS experience than other FPS titles in this same niche offer (*cough* automatic weapons on everyone BF1 *cough* ) So the most important thing to take away is that Tannenberg offers exactly that: A blood boiling, spine curling, and adrenaline filled exhilaration authentic WW1 experience.
Other then that there are a few things that I dislike a bit: First, there are some desyncing issues on the servers even with very few players in terms of animations. When they run well, they run really well – but especially bots tend to spaz out on occasion.
Visuals here don’t help a ton: the games visuals feel outdated and miss quite a bit of vibrancy, which is in stark contrast with the audio and modelling quality of the weapons, armours and environments. Environmental clipping is common and collision detection and movement cause more headaches than they should, especially in a game with such a short time to kill rate.
Sound though makes up for a ton of that with guns sounding as real as anything a AAA release from DICE or BUNGIE would sound like.
Conclusion
Overall a solid title, with excellent combat, and minor annoyances in performance – though visuals lag behind the times.
