Summary
So this game is fun. Which surprised me initially, as i’m not someone that normally enjoys these more casual / card based games. And yet… here I am, telling you its a fantastically enjoyable title.
While the game starts you of with simple “clear the field” challenges, it quickly adds more mechanical complexity and secondary mechanics to keep you going. Including various cool extras that spice up gameplay during a fight.
Yes, Fights.
This is a interesting switch where you gather charges for your weapons to use on your opponent, which has a whole other layer to the game. Where progression, skills, gear and equipment upgrades also join in. It truly feels like an RPG was built around the idea of solitaire… and it was done REALLY well.
That isn’t say there isn’t some stuff that they could do better: The options menu is inadequate, missing even resolution options, and while the visuals of the title are stylistically fitting, i dislike the character models the game went with, as they seem jarring… that said, that is a personal preference and they do fit well thematically.
Audio though… just doesn’t fit. I dislike the combat music immensely as i feel it doesn’t fit with the theme of the game overall. Especially in a card game, having music that i expect in something like DOOM.
Conclusion
That all said though. I’ve immensely enjoyed my time with the title and its a great game to pick up for 30 minutes of fun in a quick session, which to often games don’t offer these days.
