I wanted to like this game, and in some ways i really do – but that doesn’t change the fact that I was mostly just frustrated by it.
Okay, lets get one thing out of the way – this is a great and novel idea, but the flaws are everywhere making recommending this title frankly impossible.
First the art-style: a 3D game with no graphical video options, a broken resolution option selector and graphics that can only really be described as “iffy” don’t set the greatest stage for a title about exploration and experience.
On top of that the game has an immense dislike of using anything other than the colors of blue and brown in all their glory. I get it, sky and ocean are blue, but when i don’t see where ocean ends and sky begins it doesn’t help the game along. On top of that once you’re in a cave and trying to make your way out… the WALLS are blue. Frustration abound.
This brings me to movement with no mouse control available it boils down to movement on a keyboard (ugh) or on a controller, which brings it own set of frustrations compounding the entire thing all the further.
Music also isn’t the greatest branding from uninspired to weird to simply missing from the moment in terms of atmosphere across the board.
Lastly this brings me to technical competence and here basic things like changing the Resolution or rebinding keys are bugged. Which wouldn’t be the end of the world but various game breaking bugs for progressions are also in the title as well… so that isn’t a great idea either.
On the good end, you can run this at 4K 120 Hz no problem… you just have to accept that AA isn’t a thing.
Overall, especially at the asking price – this is not a game i can recommend. Its appeal to explore and experience is severely limited and hampered by its various issues.
