Summary
Sol 0 is a real time strategy game where you establish the first Martian colony. From the first human footprints on Martian soil to a thriving and self-sustaining colony, Sol 0 imagines a near future using technology that could be available within the next few decades.
Let me break out the gate with what i HATE… First the slow start of the game. The first hour or so of gameplay is VERY slow and tedious.
Secondly the sound: Gameplay, menu sounds and a lack of properly managing them is very annoying. The sound volume is messed up quite bad.
Lastly …. the options menu is both outside the game in the launcher (unity engine) and in the game… but not in the main menu. which is frustrating to say the least.
These 3 things are the biggest issues in the game and do prevent me from enjoying the game more than i would have otherwise, because everything else in the game SHINES with love, dedication, planning and good execution.
Because the use of contemporary technology coupled with a unique and interesting eastetic and development cycle for your colony is pretty amazing. Once the game gets rolling after the first hour, it starts giving you the ability to micro / macro manage various parts in a very well balanced mix of “stuff you need to do” and things you need to decide on.
All in all, for 6 dollars… this game is 100% worth it. I just hope the Dev patches in fixes for the issues i feel are very breaking.
Conclusion
Sol 0 doesn’t try to be more than it is, and while mostly achieves a nice colony building sim experience, a lot of minor issues prevent true excellence.
